This past Saturday we headed up to Kentucky to our favorite fall spot, Jackson's Apple Orchard & Pumpkin Patch! The weather was just perfect! It was just cool enough to need a sweatshirt and really felt like the fall season had arrived. The boys immediately wanted to play on the straw bales and in the maze. They were covered in straw! Then we went to the apple store. They have everything "apple" that you can imagine. They enjoyed watching the machines that seperate the apples for sell and the ones that didn't quite make the cut and were destined to become apple cider! They have about 8 different varieties and the boys eventually picked out their favorite one to buy! Then, it was on to the animal farm. They both loved getting to feed all the animals but they especially liked getting to go into the rabbit pen and hold the rabbits. Of course, they had to catch them first, which was quite comical to watch.
After lunch, the boys were ready for the hayride to the pumpkin patch. They searched high and low for just the right pumpkin. They both finally found the perfect one! They just couldn't wait to get them home and create Jack-o-lanterns!
We took just a moment once we got home to enjoy a little chocolate pumpkin cake! We know how much Isaac loves choclate cake!- and even Thomas was ready for a quick sweet treat. It turns out it was just the boost they needed to get started on their pumpkin carving. Me and Daddy really enjoyed watching them create their jack-o-lanterns. Isaac was determined to do his totally on his own! Thomas still needed a little help with the carving. Both of them did a great job! They were really excited to see them light up once the sun went down.
After filling up on a big bowl of Chili and Pimento cheese sandwiches (it's a Kentucky thing!), we all got in our pajamas and watched Daddy's favorite- It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! It's a family tradition. We have all the old Charlie Brown movies and we require they be viewed on the holidays! ha! Craig is already looking forward to watching the Thanksgiving one.
It was a fun family day!
